"A Little Birdie Told Me" is a series of blog posts where we highlight news from other media and write a bit about how their content applies to The 30 Bird's mission of educating and supporting people as they make lifestyle changes through healthier food choices.
Why Does The 30 Bird Care About The Bayer Monsanto Merger?
A couple of weeks ago, the German multi-national pharmaceutical company, Bayer AG, completed their merger with U.S. agribusiness giant, Monsanto. Monsanto is the wold's leading maker of herbicides, pesticides, and genetically modified organism (GMO) seeds and plants. Currently, Bayer intends to kill off the Monsanto name, because for many, it is synonymous with evil.
This is important to a business like The 30 Bird for what it represents in the terms of the growing popularity of the non-GMO consumer trend. Health-conscious consumers are increasingly looking for food items with keywords like: heirloom, heritage, organic, non-GMO, artisanal, grass-fed, and local. These producers are specifically trying to avoid using offerings of Monsanto in the manufacture of those goods.
The 30 Bird is not qualified to offer an opinion on whether or not GMO products are safe, but it is not a risk we want to take. Our goal is to provide our customers with the freshest and healthiest products possible. Bayer's plan is to remove the word "Monsanto" from all their newly acquired products of the company reinforces the importance of this growing trend.
